What to pack for your trip to Costa Rica
May - November is the winter or “green” season in Costa Rica!
It could rain, but “winter” doesn’t mean it will be chilly. Average temperatures for mid to late July are about 85 degrees during the day with lows of about 65 at night. Rainy season just means it can rain off and on throughout the day, usually there are showers in the early afternoon and then it is all clear again. You will still be able to explore and move about, life in the tropics does not stop for the rain! You will want to keep a poncho or umbrella handy to stay dry, however.
Pack light! Meaning, leave your mega suitcase at home. You want to bring clothes that are light and breathe well. Cotton, khaki’s or dry mesh material is perfect.
Leave whatever is precious at home! Leave material items that are precious and not easy to come by at home. While Costa Rica is safe by comparative standards, petty theft is not uncommon in touristy areas like the beach communities. Make sure to lock the doors on your house and car rentals and close the windows when you leave. It is advisable to make photocopies of your passports and carry those on day trips for identification. Leave your original documents in the room safe that is provided at most Costa Rican hotels.
